HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS INFORMATION

Below are the tennis class plans for the week of March 30-April 3. Have fun!!

Monday —
DEEP STRETCH: FOR STRETCH AND BALANCE AND STRENGTH: #totalbodyyoga (link to an external site-you tube) Click on the link or copy and paste the above link and it will bring up a youtube video to follow. Full body deep stretch practice with focus on lower back and hips!-45 minutes

Tuesday -SET 3 GOALS FOR THE REMAINDER ON THE WEEK. WRITE THEM DOWNONE GOAL MUST BE TENNIS RELATED, ONE GOAL MUST BE CHARACTER STRONG RELATED (EX. HELPING SOMEONE), ONE GOAL IS YOUR CHOICE (EX. SCHOOL RELATED, FAMILY RELATED, ETC….). BESIDE EACH GOAL , WRITE HOW YOU ARE GOING TO OBTAINTHAT GOAL THIS WEEK. COMPLETE YOUR GOALS THIS WEEK. WE WILL DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

Wednesday-practice your serve “toss” with a tennis ball or roll-up a pair of socks. Goal – Toss 100 good serves. If you want to do it with a classmate, try facetiming and have them count your good tosses. :). AFTER COMPLETED: USE VISUALIZATION TO IMAGINE HITTING YOUR SERVE WITH POWER AND ACCURACY! CONCENTRATEON YOUR TECHNIQUE, FORM, FOOTWORK. PRACTICE! T

Thursday-WORK ON FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH ALL OF YOUR GOALS. AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Friday -Conditioning: 100 jumping jacks, 25 push ups, 25 squats, 25 lunges 30 second superman – One minute rest between each category. After completed-rest 2 minutes and do everything again, then rest 3 minutes and do one more time. :) Get that Heart Pumping and have a good weekend!

+ NEXT SCHOOL YEAR: 2020-2021 MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS INFORMATION++

Summer 2020: Middle School Tennis Tryouts will be located at the LHS Harmon campus on Monday 8/17/20, 5-6pm. All players must have an updated Athletics physical. You will turn this in to Coach Johnson at tryouts. Per LISD policy, no player will be allowed to try out without a physical. Please do NOT give your physicals to your school. Give to Coach Johnson. Please see below for instructions on how to print out a physical form to take to your doctor, as well as other forms you will need to complete on line. All players can get a copy of the physical from Coach Johnson or your Athletics Coordinator at your school.
p=. MIDDLE SCHOOL players interested in signing-up to play tennis, 1st period, at your school:_
Middle School Tennis Class will begin on Friday, 8/21/20.. Please report to your school, the front office, for 1st period, until then and they will tell you where you need to go.

Middle School Parent Orientation- Date TO BE DETERMINED 5-5:45pm- Harmon Campus-Room 502- Front Entrance Doors- (Address: 1250 WEST ROUND GROVE ROAD, LEWISVILLE, TEXAS. 75077)

TENNIS CLASS IS HELD AT THE LHS HARMON CAMPUS. CLASS WILL BEGIN AT 8:00 AM. until the Tennis Season begins, then class willbegin at 7:30 am.   ALL PLAYERS MUST BE DROPPED OFF +at the front entrance + AT THE HARMON CAMPUS BY THE TIME CLASS BEGINS EACH DAY (1250 WEST ROUND GROVE ROAD, LEWISVILLE, TEXAS. 75077).  THERE WILL BE A SCHOOL BUS TO TRANSPORT PLAYERS TO THEIR MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES AFTER THE CLASS PERIOD TO  ATTEND THEIR NEXT CLASS PERIOD.  

MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS IS A COMPETITIVE ALL-YEAR-ROUND SPORT .  WE PLAY APPROXIMATELY 8 MATCHES AGAINST OTHER MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT AS WELL AS 2-4 ALL DAY TOURNAMENTS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.  As soon as the district scheduled these matches (fall and spring), Coach Johnson will put them on the website.

EVERYDAY, EACH STUDENT MUST BRING THEIR TENNIS RACQUET (IF THEY HAVE ONE), WATER, TOWEL, AND MUST WEAR A T SHIRT, SHORTS, SOCKS AND TENNIS SHOES (NOT SLIP-ONS OR KEDS).

During the school year, each player will need to purchase 1 Farmer Tennis Shirt ($12.00) and a Farmer Tennis Sweatshirt ($20.00) for game days.  They can wear their own black shorts and black sweat pants with their shirts.  

Please note: A VALID SPORTS PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED BEFORE YOUR FIRST DAY IN TENNIS CLASS, NO EXCEPTIONS.  This is a LISD requirement.

IF YOU ARE NOT SIGNED -UP TO PLAY TENNIS AND WOULD LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY, PLEASE EMAIL ME (JOHNSONDR@LISD.NET) OR CONTACT YOUR COUNSELOR WITH ANY QUESTIONS.  Your counselor will have paperwork and information for you to complete.  Infomation on all the paperwork you need complete is also listed below.

  NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME IS NECESSARY.  IF YOU WANT TO LEARN TENNIS AND WORK HARD, WE WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO PLAY, WHILE HAVING FUN IN THE PROCESS

 

If you received a physical at LHS or the doctors office this spring, you will still need to bring Coach Johnson a hard copy of your valid physical.  LHS does not keep a copy of your physical anymore.  Ask your middle school coach/pe for a hard copy and bring this to tennis class. Physicals last one calendar year.

    If you are interested in donating drinks and snacks to our High School Tennis Players for Tournament days in the Fall and Spring, please bring to our Parent Orientation meeting on Monday- August 26th or you may send Coach Johnson an email to schedule a drop-off day or send it through one of our Tennis Players any time throughout the year.  Thank you in advance.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO COMPLETE TENNIS FORMS,ALONG WITH A PHYSICAL, TO PLAY TENNIS:

TO PRINT A PHYSICAL AND ATHLETICS FORMS:

THEN CLICK ON: ATHLETICS, THEN ELECTRONIC FORMS
You will need to Click on
(1) DOWNLOAD AND PRINT -to print out a physical form to take to your doctor to complete and turn in to Coach Johnson

(2). ELECTRONIC FORMS, then ELECTRONIC PARTICIPATION FORMS (TO COMPLETE AND TURN IN TO COACH JOHNSON), You will need to select each form and fill out completely.
These forms are mandotory, through LISD, to be completed and turned-in, if you would like to participate in any sport.

ALL PLAYERS must abide by THE TEAMS RULES AND EXPECTATIONS . A copy of these forms (Middle School and High School) can be found in the Media tab (above), under the Documents section of this website. These will be signed and turned-in to Coach Johnson, in class.

GRADE ELIGIBILITY TO PLAY SPORTSALL PLAYERS PLEASE READ

(1). Please refer to the Media tab (above), then the documents tab for the UIL Eligibility Dates that each player must be passing all classes.  These dates are very important because a student will lose eligibility to play Tennis if he/she is failing on any of these dates.  A player is not allowed to fail classes two grade checks and stay in the Tennis Program.

 

(2).  All Tennis Players (all classes) will be required to do weekly grade checks. 

Grade Check Forms are on the website, click on Media (above), then documents, for you to print(or copy) each week and have your teachers sign to show you are passing each class each, week. This will start immediately.  Every Monday this form is due to Coach Johnson or Coach Martinez during class.  Your form is to be completed and signed by each teacher .  This will continue every week until off-season.   Coach Johnson will give you a copy of the Form the beginning of class to make copies and copies will also be available on our Tennis Board in the hallway of Harmon.  It is always your responsibility to get a copy and have it completed and turned in each Monday. (middle School will use two forms per week because they have more class periods)
